A Bird's Eye View of Udbina, Croatia in Lika Province

Even though Udbina, Croatia has a relatively small population, you can find it on a map, because the municipality covers the area corresponding to the Krbava field.   Krbava field is of historical note because it is the location of a major battle between the Ottomans and the Croats (the "Battle of Krbava Field" in September 1493).

Here is a Google Earth image of the Udbina/Krbava Field:

On the picture I have outlined the field's boundaries in red.  As already noted, this roughly corresponds to the boundaries of the Udbina municipality.  The Udbina municipality (or what I have sometimes call "Greater Udbina") is itself composed of the following several settlements, the largest of which is the settlement of Udbina:
  • Breštane
  • Bunić
  • Čojluk
  • Debelo Brdo
  • Donji Mekinjar
  • Frkašić
  • Grabušić
  • Jagodnje
  • Jošan
  • Klašnjica
  • Komić
  • Krbava
  • Kurjak
  • Mutilić
  • Ondić
  • Pećane
  • Podlapača
  • Poljice
  • Rebić
  • Srednja Gora
  • Svračkovo Selo
  • Šalamunić
  • Tolić
  • Udbina
  • Vedašić
  • Visuć

The smaller red circle marks roughly where Kurjak is.  The map also has an arrow (on the far left of the picture) pointing out where Mogorić is located.  Mogorić is not part of Greater Udbina, but is important for us, because it is the birth location of Sopia Ilić (Andrew's mother-in-law).

There is also an arrow pointing out the airfield.  If you look directly south from there, you'll see the settlement Udbina.  Here's a picture showing the airstrip and Udbina.

Udbina is not particularly large (compare it to the size of the airstrip, but by comparison to the other settlements, it is quite large.  For comparison, here is the satellite view of Kurjak (which includes a few clusters of houses):

Finally, here's a map of Croatia with a circle around Krbava Field(/Udbina).
