WWII Monument in Komić, Croatia

World War II had a big impact on the communities where our family lived and each has put up a memorial for the people who died during the war.  I have already posted the memorials for Kurjak and Mogorić.  The Opalić line (Stana's family) is from Komić.

Unfortunately, the monument in Komić is in complete disrepair.  The picture below on left shows how the stone marble is no longer on the monument and is instead in small pieces at the foot of the monument (see the picture below on the right).



Here's a picture from 2007 that shows that at that point the top panel was still intact (meaning some of the disrepair has occurred since then:

Deb and I decided to try to put the pieces together.  After working on it for several hours, we realized that some pieces were simply missing.  However, here are pictures of what we were able to put together:

No one with the last name Opalić was on the records we put together.  Still, we are missing large parts of the monument.  My hope is that we can find a photograph of the monument before the destruction occurred.
