If you have ancestors who lived in the military frontier prior to 1880, I recommend the following book by Gunther E. Rothenberg:
The Military Border in Croatia, 1740-1881: A Study of an Imperial Institution. The University of Chicago Press.
The book has given a lot of insights I didn't have before and it has helped provide background to understand some of the information I have already shared in earlier posts.
While I highly recommend you read this on your own, I am also posting some insights I got from each of the chapters. Those posts provide information about things that explained more about what life would have been for my ancestors living in the area.
