Marriage Rates by Age among Udbina-Area Soldiers

The data from the Austro-Hungarian records is a great resource for information about the men from the Udbina area during the 1800s.  Unfortunately it just doesn't include much information about women.  We can use some of the information from the records to glean information about family life, which in turn provides insights into the experiences for men and women.

In this post we look at marriage rates by age.  Here's the graph:

Men started getting married in their late teens.  Around 25 above 50 percent of the men were married, and by 35 almost all of the men were married.  In an earlier post, we noted that in this area women tend to be about 5 years younger then their husbands.  If that holds with this population, that would mean that close to half of the women were married by the time they got to 21 or 22.
