Sophia
Ilich was from Mogorić and her mother's maiden name was Đaković (Djakovich). Here are the
records of Đaković men from Mogorić
in the
Austro-Hungarian military records. I
list these individuals name by address because the extended household unit was the center of the socio-economic
structure in the region and because the families were not allowed to sell their property. As
a result, the people located at the same address are likely related (brothers,
fathers/sons, etc.).
(NOTE:
Information is not always consistently reported. Here I provide the
information that was available in the given document for these pieces of
information.)

You might want to note that Austria Hungary spelled Serbo-Croatian names like the Poles or Czechs they ruled over. So you will find cz for č or ć, (ch), sz for š (sh), and w for v. They do however pronounce W in our alphabet as V. In situations with foreigners they might say Vest instead of West, or ver instead of whuere. Also there is no Th sound in Croatian. Th is pronounced as t. Tome-ah instead of Thoma. Since Croatian and Serbian are both one letter one sound alphabets, this will help people find out how their ancestors were called.
ReplyDeleteWasilj=Vasilj (j is a y sound)
Wujo=Vujo
...itd. (...etc.)
