Becoming a U.S. Citizen - Overall Trends

As noted in a previous post, Andrew was naturalized in 1940 and Joseph was naturalized sometime in the time between the 1930 census and 1940 census.  While we are still waiting for their naturalization records, I thought it would be worth putting their experience in some context.  Here's a graph showing the number of individuals naturalized between 1910 and 2015. Since the early 1990s there has been a large increase.  However, prior to that time, the period during the end of WWII was also a period with high rates of naturalization.

This larger naturalization trend was reflected in what was occurring in the Serbian community in White Pine County. Here's what historian Kosso had to write:

In this regard, Andrew's and Joseph' naturalization were part of the larger trend of the time.
