The Index Searches for Andrew and Joseph (Andrew's Father-in-Law)

As noted in my companion post, the US government has several groups of records relating to immigrants.  Among their records, are the naturalization files between September 27, 1906 and March 31, 1956.  As it turns out, both Andrew (Jandre) and his father-in-law, Josesph (Jovo) were naturalized during that period.  While we know that they were naturalized during that period, we don't actually have the naturalization records themselves.  We'd like to get the naturalization records, because they usually include additional information that we would not otherwise have.

We made the request for them to search for Andrew's records in January 2015 and made the request for Joseph in April 2015.  It takes up to six months after making a request for a search before hearing an answer, but we'll post on it once we do hear back.

So how do we know that Andrew and Joseph were both naturalized?

In Andrew's case, we actually have a newspaper article giving the date of his naturalization.  On Feb 15, 1940, Andrew and several others from his same area were naturalized:

Our information on Joseph comes from the census.  Below are the records from 1920, 1930, and 1940.   If you look at the records for Joseph, you'll see that in 1920, he was listed as an alien.  In 1930, he says that he has started the citizenship process (see the "Pa" designation under the citizenship column).  And by 1940 he is listed as naturalized.  We are looking forward to getting their naturalization records and learning more about them!
